Ravell speaks about the partership with Kaleena Zanders

Los Angeles-based DJ and producer, Ravell collaborates with ghetto house producer – LondonBridge and the soul singer Kaleena Zanders on his new single, “Before I Go”.

Acquiring billings for festivals such as Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, as well as playing clubs like the award-winning XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, Ravell has proven to be a standout amongst house music artists.

In the track “Before I Go”, you collaborated with soulful vocalist Kaleena Zanders – how and when did this meeting happen?

Ravell – It all started when LondonBridge and I were in the studio and thought, “hmm who would be a cool artist to collaborate with”, Kaleena was one of the first to come to mind. We ended up reaching out to her and before we knew it we were all in the studio recording the following week.

You’ve produced and mix a variety of different genres. “Before I Go” is a fusion of gospel & house – was it difficult to work out the harmony of the song?

Ravell – Actually working out the harmony was pretty organic. We tried a few different ways to go about it but somehow nailed it pretty early on. The ultimate goal was to not overthink it and just let it flow.

You have such a unique house & EDM production style. Can you tell us a little bit about your influences and artists that greatly inspire you?

Ravell – My personal influences are family, friends, and hard work. Artists that inspire me are those who are willing to take risks on the way things are traditionally done.

You already played in Coachella Festival and EDC Las Vegas – what would you say has been the highlight of your career?

Ravell – Aside from playing these mind-blowing festivals, one thing that stands out the most to me is being able to remix a few songs for Enrique Iglesias. Enrique has always been huge influence to the Latin community so being a part of that is a dream come true, and it was kind of a big deal for my family as well.

What do you think about the independent music market? Such as DIY labels and DSPs. How important would you say streaming has been in the formation of your music career?

Ravell – I personally think releasing music independently is really cool. I think it gives you (as the artist) the opportunity to learn what it takes to make a successful record and how it gets from point A to Z. Streaming has been extremely important in my music career as it has allowed fans and artists to experience my music anywhere in the world.

Every song has a creation process. Could you tell us a little more about the process behind creating “Before I Go”?

Ravell – We wanted to be able to tell a story through a song; hence, taking the listener on a journey to move forward to a better life, a better perspective, and to leave behind the unfulfilling.

I want finish this interview asking about Alok, the biggest Brazilian DJ in the world. Do you have any intention to collaborate with him?

Ravell – If I had the opportunity, I would love to collaborate with Alok. I have been playing out a bunch of his music in my sets for a while now and I think it would make a great collaboration.
